This month's top random music tweets

I was getting really, really sick of listening to my same ole playlists, so last month I went on Twitter to ask my friendly followers what tunes I should download.  Tonight, I finally had some time to buy some of these songs, so I thought I'd share the list here just in case you've also hit a musical plateau.  I haven't listened to every artist pasted below, but I plan to later tonight.  Thanks to everyone on Twitter for taking the time to recommend some of your fave hits!

Hey Mike! I bought those tunes as well ;).

Paper Planes is killer. Last I've checked it's gotten 435 plays from me in my playlist. It's a great song to workout to. Some good looking stuff on that list. I may have to check some of them out myself.

Not to sound like a fan boy, but playlists like these are why i love Sirius. Between Alt Nation and Underground (indie rock, i might have the name wrong) they keep me at the cutting edge of cool music.

For great new music, I highly recommend listening to CBC Radio 3. The R3-30 Podcast and Grant Lawrence's show each offer up fresh independent Canadian talent on a weekly basis.

Myriad Harbor and Paper Planes and Time to Pretend are freaking amazing songs. I just got this too: Bryn Christopher - The Quest. Sounds a lot like Amy Winehouse... good stuff.

Hey Amber, another amazing (though defunct) Canadian band is The Organ. Some other greats are The Raveonettes and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. BTW, the entire MGMT album is great...worth buying.

In case you haven't seen it yet, check out this music video featuring an awesome mash-up of OS X applications being put to use. The song is called "Again and Again", also by The Bird and the Bee. I think it's pretty solid!

I watched "High Fidelity" one day and fell in love with The Beta Band after hearing them in it. One other is Chapter House. An early 90's band that reminds me of O.M.D. from the 80's.

RE your recruitment of people to Brian Ogg's (sp?) Colbert Puppet Challenge: Amy Sedaris (David's sister) is perhaps more approachable and has a connection to Colbert that goes back to before his show (Strangers with Candy.) It may be as simple as asking her to bring the puppet to his attention. She throws parties and such... lives in NYC. -Richard

Hey Amber, I know how you like the Swedes, maybe you can find out what ever became of Roxette...remember them? I know how much you hate ABBA....but what do you think of their modern counterparts......Ace of Base!

If you want a mix of really good cello playing with classic rock songs, there's a group called Low Strung which has done covers of a lot of rock songs on the cello. I think the best way to listen to their music is on their Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/lowstrungcellos

Best way to consume and discover new music is to find a few good music blogs and download the Mac app Peel. BTW, if you haven't listened to Frightened Rabbit's new release "Midnight Organ Fight", check it out. Best band discovery of 2008 for me. Peace.
