glad to hear Will is doing well - excellent show, as always - I agree with your comments on the space flights, I can understand the intrigue with space flight but ... I am looking more into little geeks, the school system demands that the students, even little "geeks" use the internet and software on computers for research. It is sad that there are so many that are unable to tap into this resource - lets take it one step further and give them free internet! Amber, you and Rahaf work excellent together. Nothing against Will - he does well - perhaps the three of you? Would that be "a money in the middle"?

wow, Amber's lil' fascist side made an appearance with Leo on Net at Night. Hey, I agree there is global warming like most sane people, but the whole idea that no opposing viewpoint should ever be allowed to see the light of day is scary. Imagine if people with that point of view were around when Galileo was living....oh yeah, he was called a heretic, or imagine if someone thought we knew all there was to be known about how the world came to be and no more points of view should be allowed, what would happen to Darwin, oh yeah, that happened. I always find it amusing, and scary, when people say they're all about free speech, freedom of expression, that there should be no restraint of the right to say what you believe, but as soon as someone speaks out against what they belive in, they want them to shut the hell up. Geez, even scientists that fully believe mankind is behind global warming will say it's still possible that some of the change is natural. And worse, that even if everyone stopped driving a car and and every factory shut down today, that the warming would still continue for decades because of what has already been done. If that's the case (I heard this on a pro-warming PBS documentary) then I dont' think half-ass feel-good legislation like the Kyoto Protocol would do a damned thing except cost hundreds of billions of dollars especially as it didn't apply to China or India. So Amber, do you want to be the first one to throw the books that say global warming isn't true onto the bonfire, wear your brown shirt when you do it!

So, what do you suggest we do, John? Do we continue on our current path and HOPE global warming is just part of a natural cycle? I don't think I want to take that gamble for my kids. Especially, when some 90 percent of experts agree that this episode of global warming is the result of human acitivity. Those are not good odds. Yeah, Kyoto may seem ludicrous, but we have to start somewhere. I AGREE that Amber's words on that Net@Night episode were extreme. But saying "Amber's lil' fascist side made an appearance..." is even more extreme. I don't think she meant to suggest that opposing viewpoints "should never be allowed to see the light of day." I think she was trying to say that if the majority of the scientific community agrees that global warming is a serious problem, and is the result of our current lifestyle, why do we continue to waste time and energy debating the issue in the media, and further confusing the public, when we should be pouring our focus into solving the problem. I find it scary when someone is so quick to label someone else a "fascist."

Mike, no one suggested throwing the books that oppose man-made global warming on the bonfire. That's exactly where the case should be made: In scientific papers. The case should not be made by going straight to the media demanding 50/50 air time or lobbying politicians with private money. In the same way that anti-darwinists have gone directly to high school education boards rather than first prove their case scientifically with research in Universities. There could very well be a case against such things as the Kyoto protocol and if you are interested in such things I suggest you look at people attempting to study the problem scientifically such as Bjorn Lomborg if you have not done so already.
